‘Sad outcome’ for half-brother to Black Caviar

The $5 million Redoutes Choice half-brother to Black Caviar was put down on Sunday morning.

Inglis managing director Mark Webster blogged the news shortly after the colt was euthanased on humane grounds at the Werribee Veterinary Hospital.  He succumbed to laminitis after an adverse reaction to anti-biotic treatment for a spider bite last month.

“This is a very sad outcome for all involved,” Webster said.  “We thank all of the staff at the Werribee Hospital for their dedicated care, in particular to Dr Chris Whitton and his colleagues.”

The colt was sold to BC3 Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Inglis Easter yearling sale and was being held in security by the auction house following non-payment of the full purchase price.

BC3 defaulted on several yearlings which are now for private sale by Inglis and some of its other purchases are being re-auctioned by Magic Millions at the Gold Coast next month.
