Sassy Trader became the third 2yo winner sent out by Sean and Jake Casey this season when he made a successful debut in the Crown Perth Plate (1000m) at Ascot on Saturday.

The Wally Daly homebred started a $2.20 favourite following two impressive trials at Belmont.  He sat on the speed for Pat Carberry and kept lifting to defeat Tiger Move (All American) and Zangief (Street Boss).

Sassy Trader joins stablemates Dom To Shoot and Charleton Eddie who have combined to win five juvenile races and some minor black-type this season.  They are both by NSW-based Godolphin stallion Shooting To Win.

Daly bred Sassy Trader by using former Alwyn Park sire Trade Fair (GB) over his widely-travelled mare There’snonesosassy (Due Sasso).  Sean Casey trained her to win 8 races at Belmont, Broome, Leonora and Leinster and that Broome result was Jake’s first win as an apprentice in June 2013.

“We have got a handy team of young ones at present,” Jake Casey said on Saturday.  “I wouldn’t like to put them in any particular order but the best part of Sassy Trader’s win was the way he found the line.

“He got a bit lost early but put them away in the straight.  He’s still developing and will mature into a nice type next season.”

There’snonesosassy foaled Classy Lassy (Playing God) first-up and she won at Belmont in June last year.  The mare has a yearling colt by Gingerbread Man and a filly foal by Maschino.

Trade Fair (Zafonic) was represented by his final crop of yearlings at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions and the only filly to parade in the Swan Valley made $45,000 to the bid of trainer Jason Miller.  She is from Flying Flitter (Flying Spur) who is an unraced daughter of Group 1 mare Flitter (Bluebird).
