Trainer Neville Parnham believes Playing God colt September Born can emulate his full-sister Kay Cee during the forthcoming Ascot Pinnacles summer carnival.
The untapped 3yo resumed from a winter break to win a barrier trial at Belmont on Monday ahead of a campaign targeting the G2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 23 and G1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) on December 7.
Kay Cee won the 2019 Northerly Stakes (when it was known as the Kingston Town Classic) for Parnham and owner-breeders Glen and Kathy Edwards. Bookmakers have September Born at $7 in the latest Northerly markets behind equal $6 favourites Western Empire (Iffraaj) and Zipaway (Playing God).
September Born (3c Playing God – Flirt ‘N’ Hope by McFlirt) was a decisive 2yo debut winner at Belmont in June and was spelled straight away so that he could return in plenty of time for The Pinnacles.
“If I was a punter, I would have put the house on him today,” Parnham declared after the colt’s first-up victory as a firming $2.20 favourite. “There’s significant upside in him. He’s sharper and not as lean as Kay Cee with a good hindquarter and shoulder.”
Parnham was more even more expansive following this morning’s trial at Belmont. “He looks magnificent and, if anything, he’s grown. Hopefully we can follow a similar path to Kay Cee.”
Their dam Flirt ‘N’ Hope is a daughter of G3 A J Scahill Stakes (1400m) winner Lizzy Long Legs (Steel Glow). The Edwards family retained her 2yo filly Let’s Talk Legs (I’m All The Talk) and the mare foaled another Playing God colt at Willaview Park in August.
Kay Cee has a yearling colt by Splintex and she delivered a filly by A Lot (USA) in August.
Darling View Thoroughbreds stands Playing God for $49,500 with Splintex ($11,000) and Lightsaber ($6,600). Service fees (inc GST). Stud manager Brent Atwell can be contacted for bookings or more information on 0408 648 100.
