WA based sire Discorsi was in the news again when his younger half-sister Sea Siren won at Canterbury on Thursday night.
Sea Siren (3f Fastnet Rock – Express A Smile by Success Express) scored second-up in the ATC William’s Premium Lager Hcp (1200m). The John O’Shea trained filly is the latest of 7 winners for their dam Express A Smile.
She is raced by owner-breeder Keith Biggs after being withdrawn from the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Biggs also raced Oratorio (Stravinsky) with Lee Freedman. He was a stakes winner at Moonee Valley and Doomben before retiring to stand at Mungrup Stud.
Kalgoorlie based Biggs was hoping for similar results with Discorsi after the Galileo colt won the LR Gibson Carmichael Stakes at Flemington.
Freedman called Discorsi a Victoria Derby candidate but injuries sidelined him for 18 months. Connections finally bowed to the inevitable when he pulled up sore at Sandown.
Yarradale Stud put Discorsi over 100 mares first-up in 2010 and was just as busy at a $5,500 fee this year.
“Discorsi is a magnificent looking horse,” Biggs said. “He’s a Galileo with the speed to win a stakes race as a two year-old and I think he will do very well in WA.”
Express A Smile also foaled NZ G2 winner Lady Dehere (Dehere). Second dam Hold That Smile (Haulpak) won the G1 Karrakatta Plate and her older brother Carry A Smile was a G2 winner who stood for 16 years at Heytesbury Stud.
Express A Smile died in March 2011. Her last foal is a 2yo Street Sense filly.
