Ceylon has notched the 50th win of the season for trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young in the Ascend Trophies Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley.
A $75,000 buy for Mark Pilkington Management (FBAA) at the 2015 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale, she has now won 5 times in 13 starts for a partnership managed by Seymour Bloodstock’s Darren Thomas.
Ceylon (4m Cape Blanco – Teardrop Island by Fastnet Rock) looked a class above her rivals on Friday and so did Dwayne Dunn who won a set of clubs from Drummond Golf for the ride of the night.
She had won first-up at Cranbourne on New Year’s Eve after being sidelined for the majority of 2017. “She required minor surgery but has fully recovered,” Busuttin explained. “We’ve been able to manage her recovery really well and she’s as good as ever.
“We’ve always had a nice opinion of her. She had a busy first year racing so we decided to give her a decent break.”
Ceylon is from a half-sister to Montahlia (LR Werribee Cup) and the dam of You Think So (LR Moonee Valley Night Cup).
Pilkington has also negotiated the sale of her unbeaten stablemate Keen to clients of Hong Kong trainer Tony Cruz.
Keen (Teofilo) won by four lengths on debut at Cranbourne on December 22 and doubled up at Caulfield a fortnight later. Pilkington had purchased him on behalf of Thomas and partners for $105,000 at the 2016 Karaka 2YO Sale.
His dam Fain (Quest for Fame) is an unraced half-sister to Randwick stakes-performers Paulini and Tide.
