Shinzig left his mark on the Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale with a first crop colt knocked down to Rick Hore-Lacy for $160,000. That’s 16 times his 2008 service fee!
Indicative of the book of mares Shinzig received when retired to Eliza Park stud in 2008, his highly sought out youngster at Oaklands Junction is from G1 STC Coolmore Classic winner Chlorophyll.
Shinzig is a son of Danehill and he scored a last-stride victory in one of the strongest editions of the G1 Orr Stakes on record in February 2008. He was also G1 placed in the NZ Waikato Sprint behind Darci Brahma and G1 VRC Emirates Stakes won by long-shot Tears I Cry.
Eliza Park principal Lee Fleming normally keeps 25% equity in the stud’s stallions, however, he was left with 50% of Shinzig. “It just amazed me breeders didn’t take up the offer to buy shares,” Fleming said after the Orr Stakes. “He should have a very good future at stud in Victoria.”
That prediction is paying off at the majors around Australia. Besides the colt from Chlorophyll, he also had first crop fillies purchased by agent Anton Koolman and trainer Stephen Theodore at Oaklands Junction.
Shinzig has 12 yearlings catalogued for the Adelaide Magic Millions on March 15 & 16.
