Harmony kick-started what looks to be another successful weekend for Sir Patrick Hogan with a determined victory at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Harmony (4m Zabeel – Danelish by Great Dane) came from well off a quick pace to power home over Moulin Bleu (Monde Bleu) and Coldens Choice (Seul Amour) in the Barloworld Motor Hcp (2040m).
The Peter Moody trained mare owed winning jockey Luke Nolen a favour after ejecting him at Cranbourne in May 2010. She was given an eight month spell and won second-up over 1600m at Cranbourne in January. Friday’s victory was her second in just seven starts and she’s bound to keep progressing this time in.
Harmony is a Cambridge Stud homebred for Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan and is by their champion sire Zabeel who completed a double when stablemate Lights Of Heaven won the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic.
Harmony is from an unraced half-sister to G2 winning Semipalatinsk mares Memphis Blues and Palatious. It’s the family of Zabeel’s G1 winners Vengeance Of Rain (Hong Kong Horse of the Year.) and Dizelle (AJC Australian Oaks).
Cambridge Stud sold her Perfectly Ready half-brother for $35,000 at the NZB Select Sale at Karaka last month.
Sir Patrick is excited about the prospect of having three runners in the G1 New Zealand Derby on Saturday. He has shares in three horses from three different stables – On The Level (Murray & Bjorn Baker), Yourein (John Sargent) and Encosta Diablo (Jason Bridgeman).
Hogan races On The Level with long-time friends Alistair Sutherland, Tony Timpson and Peter Walker. The son of Align came into Derby favour when running home strongly for second in the G2 Avondale Guineas.
The same group of owners race Yourein (Reset) who won the LR Great Northern Guineas Prelude.
Encosta Diablo (Encosta de Lago) was a Listed 2YO winner and was fifth behind Jimmy Choux in the G1 NewZealand 2000 Guineas.
