Silvano tops BBAG October Sale

Ten years to the day after finishing fourth in the MVRC Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, Silvano topped trade during the final session of the BBAG October Sale at Baden-Baden on Saturday.

A Silvano colt out of the In The Wings mare Maramara was bought by Italian trainer Enrico Brogini from the consignment of Gestut Fahrhoffor for 32,000 euros.

Silvano finished right behind Northerly, Sunline and Viscount in a controversial finish to the 2001 Cox Plate.  A widely travelled galloper, he won Group races in Hong Kong, North America, Singapore and Germany.

Silvano shuttled between Gestüt Fährhof in Germany and South Africa and his best southern hemisphere bred galloper to date has been last year’s G1 Durban July winner Bold Silvano.

The October Sale began on Friday when Solidaro made 38,000 euros to the bid of Italian buyer Pietro Francescini.  The Monsun gelding won at Longchamp in May before a unplaced effort behind Danedream in the G1 Grosser Preis von Berlin in July.

Danedream was a 9,000 euros BBAG graduate and she trained on to give Germany a rare triumph in the Arc de Triomphe earlier this month.  Danedream and Silvano are both by Champion German sire Lomitas.

Vendor buybacks and unsold lots combined to reduce the clearance rate to 54%.  The average was down 17% to 5,650 euros.
