Choisism rolled back the years for the Freedman family and his part-owner Stephen Silk at Kranji on Friday night. The Choisir sprinter opened his winning account in the familiar green and white colours that were carried by champion galloper Naturalism.
Choisism (Aus) is trained by Michael Freedman and he had won three for his brother Lee in Victoria before transferring to Singapore.
Naturalism (Palace Music) was a G1 winner of the 1992 AJC Derby, 1992 Rosehill Guineas and 1993 Caulfield Stakes and, in hindsight, it was a golden era for the Freedmans coming so soon after their ground-breaking victory in the 1989 Melbourne Cup.
Naturalism came hot on the heels of Super Impose and, together, they built a platform for the brothers winning 28 black-type events between 1988 and 1993.
“It’s a big thrill to get a win on board for colours that mean so much to us,” Freedman said. “Stephen has been a long-term client and he still owns horses with Lee. Of course, Naturalism was the most famous.”
Choisism (5g Choisir-Paraiba by Last Tycoon) is from an unraced half-sister to Tempest Morn (Thunder Gulch), a G1 winner of the SAJC Australasian Oaks and STC Ansett Australia Stakes.
Freedman is not aiming too high too early with Choisism. “He was a nice midweek horse back home but they took the opportunity to send him here for the great prizemoney. I would like to get him over 1400m before making any plans.”
