Irish-bred mare Sinnfonia provided the highlight of the NZ Bloodstock Winter Sale at Karaka on Friday when selling for $61,000.
Catalogued at Lot 26, Sinnfonia (Sinndar) is a winning half-sister to international stakes performers Burano (Dalakhani) and Kalidaha (Cadeaux Genereux). She raced in the famous Swettenham Stud colours in NZ.
Knocked down to Dan Myers and Kevin O’Hara’s boutique breeding operation in Hawera, Sinnfonia’s prestigious bloodlines increased her appeal as a broodmare prospect. “It was her international pedigree that brought her to our attention,” O’Hara said. “With the European broodmares going so well down here, we though some international blood would be handy from a selling point of view.”
Also heading to Hawera is Shanstar who was purchased by Onyx Thoroughbreds for $50,000 from the draft of Seven Oaks Park. She is a Pins half-sister to G3 winner Diademe (Savabeel).
The leading vendor by aggregate was the Estate of Jim Campin with 24 lots sold for $172,600.
In all, 107 lots were catalogued with 79 horses sold at an average of $5,953 and a clearance rate of 84%.
A highlight earlier in the day was the parade with some of New Zealand’s best stallions at Karaka. Next on the NZB calendar is the South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock which will be held next Friday August 9 at Canterbury Agricultural Park from 12pm.
