Sister to Dawn Approach tops Day 1 at Goffs Orby Sale

A sister to G1 Irish National Stakes winner Dawn Approach topped Day 1 of Goffs Orby Sale on Wednesday.  Offered by Jim Bolger’s Redmondstown Stud, the filly was sold to Doyle Bloodstock for 775,000 euros at the Co. Kildare auction.

“We have bought her for a syndicate of people looking for a top-class filly,” said Peter Doyle. “She will be going into training with Jim.  She was a lovely filly and we all know how good her brother is. We finished second to Dawn Approach in the Coventry Stakes with Olympic Glory.”

They are by English Derby winner New Approach (Galileo) from Phone Trick mare Hymn of the Dawn.  New Approach shuttles to Darley Australia and he was also owned and trained by Bolger before transferring to Sheikh Mohammed’s wife Princess Haya.

Next on the Day 1 leader-board was a Montjeu colt that cost 500,000 euros to the bid of Demi O’Byrne.  His dam is G2 Cherry Hinton winner Jewel In The Sand.  The half million mark was matched when Mandore Agency purchased a Pivotal half-brother to Champion filly Maybe.

Goffs reported across the board increases on the opening day with a 46% rise in average to 89,168 euros.  The median grew by 31% to 55,000 euros.  The clearance rate was a strong 84%.
