Top three year-old Bionic Star put the icing on another winning week for Bianconi in Hobart on Sunday.
The Swettenham champion sired six winners in five days from Oakbank to Moonee Valley and down to Tasmania.
Bionic Star (3g Bianconi – Aden by Rory’s Jester) won the Baskerville Quarries Hcp (1200m) by more than two lengths from Huon Knight and Anelene. Showing customary early speed to lead, he dug deep at the top of the straight and went on to score comfortably.
Trainer Barry Campbell will weigh up the options about which way to go with his talented sprinter. He’s undecided whether to target the Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) or keep the gelding at sprint journeys with the Carbine Club 3YO (1100m) on Derby Day and the 3YO Classic (1200m).
“I don’t think he will have any problems stepping up to a mile,” Campbell predicted. “The Bianconi horses can run the distance and nothing seems to worry my bloke. He doesn’t pull and will be meeting them much better on the weights.”
Bionic Star is raced by owner-breeder Craig Hodge. His dam Aden was bred back Bianconi after losing a Kaphero foaled last month.
Bianconi (Danzig) is relentless in the winner department. He has sired 48 winners of 65 races in Australia this season.
