Sizzling quinella for Snitzel

Sizzling led home a Snitzel quinella in the LR Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Sizzling (2c Snitzel – Admirelle by General Nediym) overcame a tardy start to trounce his rivals by the best part of five lengths.  Second home was last start Randwick G3 winner Dances On Stars (Snitzel) who looked all at sea in the heavy conditions.

Sizzling will head in the same direction as Hot Snitzel who won the Ken Russell Memorial last year before claiming the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.  “That was brilliant,” trainer Kelso Wood said.  “He will run in the Champagne Classic at Doomben then go to the Sires’ Produce and the T J Smith.”

Arrowfield Stud’s precocious stallion Snitzel is carving out a sensational career as a sire of two year-olds.  His first crop was headed by G2 Silver Slipper winner Chance Bye and the second included Hot Sniztel and Salade (G2 Pago Pago Stakes).

Snitzerland heads this year’s line-up.  She was a G3 winner at Flemington before earning $620,000 when a long-neck second to Pierro in the G1 Golden Slipper.

Sizzling was bred by John and Trish Muir at Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds.  He was a $260,000 purchase from Evergreen Stud by agent John Foote at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

The colt’s owners include David and Diane Devine along with VFL champion Leigh Matthews.  The Devines have also enjoyed success with the Arrowfield-sired stakeswinner Zero Rock (Danzero).

Snitzel started Saturday on a winning note thanks to Malavio in Race 1 at Hawkesbury.  The Steve Englebrecht trained gelding was having his first start for the Warwick Farm based conditioner.

Malavio (3g Snitzel – Win Here Win There by Dehere) had won at Scone (2), Gosford and Wyong before transferring from the Upper Hunter to Sydney.

Englebrecht also trained his dam Win Here Win There to a Canterbury victory in 2001.  Second dam Our Fiction (Zoffany) won the 1993 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Snitzel will stand alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield this year for a fee of $33,000 (inc gst).
