Sky’s the limit for Kay Tee Why

Leading breeder Tony Patrizi launched the Marjorie Charleson Classic meeting a winner with Kay Tee Why (Nicconi) at Ascot last Saturday and then doubled up with Masterly (Universal Ruler) and Jaz Session (Sessions) at Belmont on Wednesday.

Patrizi offered Kay Tee Why through his Greenfields Lodge consignment to the 2023 Perth Magic Millions Winter Yearling Sale and trainer Adam Durrant turned a $30,000 price-tag into a bank of $65,840 for a stable syndicate in the Wittens Irrigation & Design Hcp (1000m).

Kay Tee Why (3g Nicconi – Amthaal by Lonhro) was winning second time out after a going down narrowly on debut as an odds-on favourite at Albany in November.  “Our Winter Sale bargain doubles his purchase price with a dominant first-up win without a trial,” Durrant Racing posted on Facebook.

“We’re looking forward to where he takes us because he’s showing early signs of being a serious racehorse. The sky’s the limit for Kay Tee Why!”

Patrizi purchased his Pakenham-winning dam Amthaal for $95,000 from Widden Stud at the 2020 Magic Millions National Sale.  She was carrying Written Melody (Written By) off a maiden cover and Greenfields Lodge sold her to Williams Racing for $60,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.

Written Melody won a Belmont juvenile on debut in July 2023 and Kay Tee Why made it two from two for Amthaal last Saturday.  The mare’s third foal is a weanling colt by Playing God

At the Belmont midweeks, the Patrizi-bred pair both started short-priced favourites and won accordingly.

Jaz Session (4m Sessions – Jaz Me Up by War Chant) had doubled up at Pinjarra this time last year and saluted again in the Reliable Asset Maintenance Hcp (1000m).  She was a $24,000 buy for trainer Justine Erkelens at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.

Patrizi has been breeding from the family for three generations and the final foal from Jaz Me Up is also with Erkelens at Muchea.  Named Jazz Me Baby (Gingerbread Man), she is an unraced 2yo filly who ran fourth in a Belmont 400m barrier trial on Tuesday.

Masterly (3g Universal Ruler – Juice by Bertolini) broke his maiden in the Quayclean Hcp (1400m) for Neville and Carol Parnham in partnership with Paul Cooke (Smartnet Investments).  He cost $42,500 out of the same Greenfields consignment to the 2023 Magic Millions Winter Sale as Kay Tee Why.

Masterly is a half-brother to recent Ascot winner Rocket Juice (Bondi) and the dam of Man Crush (Manhattan Rain) who won the LR Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) in January.  The Patrizi-bred sprinter can win for the second at black-type level in the LR Bunbury Stakes (1400m) this (Saturday) afternoon.

Patrizi can also played a hand in the LR Bunbury Cup (2020m) as the breeder of the Williams Racing galloper Sensessional (Sessions) who has opened a $5.50 second favourite behind stablemate Captain Pluto ($3.70).  Sensessional hails from a black-type family going back to Snippets Show (Snippets) who won the LR Supremacy Stakes (1000m) at Ascot in 1992.
