Champion colt Smarty Jones will shuttle to Uruguay for the 2011 southern hemisphere season.  

Smarty Jones (Elusive Quality – I’ll Get Along by Smile) won the 2004 Kentucky Derby and G1 Preakness Stakes and just missed the Triple Crown when finishing second to Birdstone in the Belmont Stakes.

A son of former Darley shuttler Elusive Quality, he has sired 106 winners, including 4 Group winners, from 160 starters in his first three crops.  His three year-old son Rogue Romance is favoured to win the G2 Risen Star Stakes in Louisiana this Saturday.

Smarty Jones (Elusive Quality) retired to Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky but was relocated to Ghost Ridge Farms in Pennsilvania for this year’s breeding season.  

Owner Pat Chapman was instrumental in the stallion returning to his native Pennsylvania.  And she was determined for the horse to stay in the United States after several offers came from foreign studs over the past year.

“The Japanese really, really want him,” Chapman said.  “We’ve turned down some nice offers but I’m happy to allow Smarty the opportunity to shuttle.  He will travel to Uruguay at the end of July and be returning before Christmas so all the fans can reconnect before the 2012 stud season starts.”
