Valixir filly Nerve Test notched a ground-breaking victory for Robert Smerdon at Werribee on Thursday.
The Aquanita trainer established a new personal best when Nerve Test became his 105th winner of the season.
Nerve Test (3f Valixir – Assertive Belle by Lure) was coming off a 55 day break after a promising fourth on debut at Bendigo. She stormed home from second last on the corner to win the King Cobra Signs Maiden (1100m) by more than a length.
“She finished off very strongly,” jockey Nick Hall said. “Get her over further and she will only keep improving.”
Smerdon also suggested owner Sandy McGregor will have plenty of fun with the filly who is from the first crop of Lomar Park sire Valixir (Fr). A homebred for the Aga Khan, he reached Group 1 highs by defeating Starcraft in the Ascot Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) and Elvstroem in the Prix d’Ispahan (1800m).
Leading agent Steve Brem bought Nerve Test for $32,000 at the 2010 Inglis Classic yearling sale. She is from an unraced half-sister to Lim’s Ransom (Red Ransom), a Singapore based winner of five races up to 1800m including the Listed 3YO Challenge.
Nerve Test was bred by Bert and Jenny Hatton under their Torbanlea banner. They also bred Zuccherina (Host) and she was a very impressive winner at Moruya on Tuesday. Her damsire Arena stands alongside Valixir at Lomar Park.
