Snitzel maintains winning run at Mornington

Snitzerland continued Snitzel’s dream run season with a runaway victory in the $250,000 Inglis Premier at Mornington on Wednesday.

Snitzerland (2f Snitzel – Monte Rosa by Fraar) punished her rivals by more than four lengths and immediately firmed into $17 for the G1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 7.  The Gerald Ryan trained filly led home a feature quinella for Arrowfield stallions from runner-up Road Trippin (Charge Forward).

Snitzel colt No Smoken finished fourth for Caulfield trainer Clinton McDonald.

Snitzerland was purchased for $125,000 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.  She is part-owned by Neil Werrett who is enjoying the ride of a lifetime with Black Caviar.

“The Golden Slipper is the ultimate target,” Werrett said at Mornington.  “I thought the Inglis Premier would be a good race to get her on the board and the prizemoney is phenomenal.  We actually paid for her with today’s winnings.”

At her only other start, Snitzerland had finished a half-head second to Applegate in the Listed VRC Ottawa Stakes (1000m) on Melbourne Cup day.

Snitzel’s black-type juveniles so far this season, apart from Snitzerland and No Smoken, includes Brisbane flyer Sizzling and Melbourne filly Sweetener.  The Arrowfield stallion is also the sire of Snitzerland’s winning stablemates Amorino (Randwick & Rosehill) and Flying Snitzel (Canterbury).

Snitzerland is from an unraced sister to G3 winner Nina Haraka and comes from the Tennessee family of stakes winning fillies.  Her dam Monte Rosa is named after Switzerland’s highest mountain and she has already foaled the winners Red Dress Marley (Hussonet), Akmal (Flying Spur) and Deleque (French Deputy).

Monte Rosa’s yearling colt by Hussonet made $120,000 at the 2012 Inglis Classic Sale last month.  The mare was bred back to Snitzel in October.  Wednesday’s lucrative result came just 24 hours after Snitzel topped the Perth Magic Millions with a colt that made $240,000.

Snitzel stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield.  He stood for a $27,500 fee last year but the asking price is overdue for an increase in 2012.
