So Anyway sent her residual value soaring with a fighting win in the Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on Friday. The Patinack Farm filly raced along the rails and lifted to beat late closers Purrpurrlena (Catbird) and Melpomene (Elusive Quality).
So Anyway (3f General Nediym – Addictive by Flying Spur) purchased by Patinack Farm from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral for $200,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions. The filly’s earnings have shot to $338,650 as well as her future value as a broodmare for Nathan Tinkler.
Trainer John Thompson said the filly had deserved to break through in a stakes race after a string of excellent runs without any luck. Prior to the Dark Jewel, she had run in the first five in no fewer than nine stakes races – including a fifth placing in the Golden Slipper last year.
“From the inside draw everything worked out perfectly,” winning rider Peter Robl said. “She showed a lot of courage over the last 100 metres to hold on.”
So Anyway is by deceased Widden Stud sire General Nediym and she takes his stakes winners’ tally to 28. She is the third stakes winner among his current crop of three year-olds following Pergram (Listed SAJC Queen Adelaide St) and Paprika (Listed BTC T Smith Slipper and Listed QTC McDougall Stakes ).
So Anyway if from a half-sister to the stakes performers The Heavyweight, Happy Strike, Zedrich, Born Western, Danarich and Little Doutes. Their dam Rich Haul is also the second-dam of this season’s stakes performed juvenile Flokkati.
Rich Haul is from the Laurie Connell owned Perth stakes winning juvenile Born Rich and is therefore a half sister to Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless. Other members of the family are recent Group 1 winner Rostova, New Zealand sprint star Imananabaa, Singapore champ Trigger Express and this season’s Pinjarra Cup winner Simply Adorable.
