Mark Kavanagh has been a major supporter of the Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sales and his graduates include the Group 1 winners Undoubtedly, Divine Madonna and Devil Moon.
Catapulted (4g Catbird – Siren Miss by Umatilla) joined the list when he was a sizzling winner of the Listed Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday. The Kavanagh trained sprinter had been runner-up to Velocitea in the G1 Goodwood earlier this month.
“He’s a good honest horse and he keeps getting better,” Kavanagh said. “He’s flying and is very consistent. “We’re in no rush to choose an immediate goal but he’s got 51kgs in the Stradbroke Handicap and that’s tempting.”
Catapulted was a $90,000 purchase for Kavanagh from the 2007 Adelaide Magic Millions and has already earned over $350,000. He was bred by the Watson family’s Mill Park along with good friends and clients Bob and Helen Dinham.
Catapulted is from a sister to the stakes winning juvenile Umatune who is the dam of Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Jestatune. His third and fourth dams – Neptune Princess and Lady Freux – both won the G2 SAJC Bloodhorse Breeders’ Stakes at Morphettville.
The Catbird gelding has won 8 times from 13 starts since a debut victory at Morphettville in January 2008. He won first time out by a nose beating Super Satin. The runner-up was sent off-shore and won this season’s G1 Hong Kong Derby at Sha Tin.
Catbird (Danehill) specialised in siring short-course horses during a career that was cruelly cut short after just seven years at Yarraman Stud. A Group 1 winner of the Golden Slipper, he has sired 19 stakes winners to date. His final crop are current season two year-olds.
