Soldier of Fortune (Ire) will shuttle to Chile for the 2011 southern hemisphere season. The Galileo stallion is currently covering his second French book at Haras du Logis Saint-Germain at a service fee of 10,000 euros.
Soldier of Fortune (7h Galileo – Affianced by Erins Isle) was ranked behind Authorized as Europe’s best 3YO in 2007. A Navan winner at two, he returned as a three year-old to claim the G1 Irish Derby, G2 Prix Niel, G2 Prix Noailles and G3 Chester Vase.
Ballydoyle boss Aidan O’Brien kept him in training at four to win the G1 Coronation Cup and he was placed behind Zarkava and Youmzain in the 2008 Arc de Triomphe.
The Coolmore colt was bred by Jim Bolger from LR Curragh Debutante Stakes winner Affianced. She has also foaled the Irish stakes winners Heliostatic (Galileo) and Curragh Silver Stakes winner Carraiglawn (Rock of Gibraltar). Affianced is a half-sister to G1 Italian winner Sholokhov (Sadler’s Wells) and LR Irish 1000 Guineas Trial winner Zavaleta (Kahyasi).
Soldier of Fortune will stand at Haras Porta Pia near Santiago this southern spring.
