Sorell Miss wins Tasbreeders 3YO Classic

Sorell Miss was an impressive winner of last Sunday’s Tasbreeders 3yo Classic which was run exclusively for graduates of the Tasmanian Magic Millions yearling sale.

Sorell Miss (3f Mujahid – Lemon Soda by Noalcoholic) was a $28,000 buy out of the Widford Park draft of the 2009 Tasmanian Magic Millions for owners Rick and Tina Polley.

In addition to the stakes money on offer, the connections of all three placegetters each received a $5,000 sale credit to be redeemed at the 2011 sale.  Secuma (Umatilla) and Dalkeith Dancer (Keep The Faith) filled the minors at Hobart.

Trainers David and Scott Brunton believe Sorell Miss has a very bright future.  “She continues the good run that we’ve had with graduates from the Magic Millions,” David Brunton said.  “We purchased a number of youngsters at last year’s Tasmanian sale and they are showing above average ability.”

Sorell Miss is by a former Widden Stud shuttler from a winning half-sister to the dam of G1 MRC Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive (Geiger Counter).  She is a half-sister sister to Listed TTC Gold Sovereign Stakes winner Testamarriage (Testa Rossa) and Moonee Valley winner El Martini (El Moxie).

Tasbreeders Executive Officer Brett Williams said it was fantastic to see a number of parties working together to make the sale graduate races a reality.  “Funding for these races includes contributions from the Tasmanian Racing Club, Tasmanian Turf Club, Magic Millions, Tasracing and Tasbreeders,” Williams said.

This year’s sale will be held on February 22 – the day before Launceston Cup Day which will also see the inaugural running of a $50,000 race exclusive to 2010 sale graduates.

“The creation of these races was specifically designed to provide a direct return to the buyers who support the Tasmanian sale, without having to worry about potentially competing against a $500,000 yearling from the January Gold Coast sale,” Williams continued.

“Having said that, the record of Tasmanian bred horses in feature races both last season and this season has been outstanding, and is a tribute to the efforts of local breeders who have continued to upgrade the quality of their breeding stock.”
