Darley has announced well-bred stakes winners Sousa and Jalil will enter stud in China in 2012 in an effort to bolster that country’s emerging thoroughbred industry.
“Sheikh Mohammed is particularly pleased he can contribute to the development of the Chinese racehorse,” Darley bloodstock advisor John Ferguson said on Monday. “Both stallions are exceptional physical specimens, each boast stellar classic bloodlines, and both performed with great credit at the highest level.”
Sousa (Galileo) will stand at Ordos Farm in Inner Mongolia. Campaigned by Woodlands Stud and then Sheikh Mohammed, Sousa was trained by Peter Snowden to win three of his 12 starts including the G1 AJC Spring Champion Stakes.
Jalil (Storm Cat) will stand at Lisui Farm in Beijing. Bred in Kentucky, he was a $9.70 million buy at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale. His G1 winning dam Tranquility Lake (Rahy) has also produced G1 winners After Market and Courageous Cat.
Jalil won four of his 16 starts, including the G2 Sakhee Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum Challenge in 2008.
Both stallions will be managed by Junling Sun who is a graduate of Darley’s Flying Start program.
