Galileo colt stars on Day 1 at Arqana Sale

A Galileo half-brother to French classic winner Silver Frost was the star of Day 1 at Arqana’s October yearling sale in Deauville.

Silver Frost (Verglas) won the 2009 French 2000 Guineas.  The latest colt out of his dam Hidden Silver (Anabaa) sold to Marc-Antoine Berghracht for 310,000 euros on Monday evening.

“The colt is a lovely type who we knew would be expensive, as he has a great pedigree as well,” Berghracht said.  “He will stay in France, but we have not decided on a trainer yet.”

Darley sire New Approach was also popular headed by a striking individual from Haras de Saint-Pair.  The colt is out of a sister to Group 1 winners Getaway and Guadalupe and sold to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estates for 260,000 euros.

Shadwell agent Angus Gold Gold said the New Approach colt was an obvious standout.  “He is an exciting type with a great pedigree, from a very good farm.  Hopefully he will make a lovely three year-old.

The Arqana October yearling sale is being conducted over four days with 583 yearlings.  The catalogue is almost entirely made up of those eligible for the French premiums.  This enterprise has proved a major draw in recent times with up to 75% extra offered to two-year-old winners.

Top graduates in the last 12 months include the Group winners Testosterone (Dansili), Sandy’s Charm (Footstepsinthesand), Don’t Hurry Me (Hurricane Run) and Absolutly Yes (Country Reel).

The four day sale is divided into two parts, with the higher-profile Part 1 taking place Monday and Tuesday.
