The South African National 2YO Sale ended on Sunday evening with lower that expected figures.  Despite an encouraging start, turnover dropped 19% to R19.38 million and the average fell 22% to R58,039.

The higher end of the market took a dive but the middle and bottom end held their own.  The overall median rose from R40,000 to R45,000.  

Prominent Fort Wood stallion Dynasty accounted for the top two lots headed by R350,000 filly purchased by Alec Laird.  She is the first foal out of a sister to G3 winner Fun Sky and was consigned by Bosworth Farm.

Dynasty was also responsible for the top-priced colt from home base Highlands Farm.  He is out of the winning Theatrical mare Lanquid Lady and made R325,000 to the bid of Hassan Adams.  

Klipdrif Stud consigned two Jet Master colt that figured on the leader-board.  A colt the family of Wainui cost R300,000 and a brother to stakes placed Jet Jamboree was knocked down for R220,000.

Danika Stud had two sales in the Top 10.   The Trippi colt out of French mare Zanakiya made R300,000.  He’s half brother to G1 placed Zanzamar.

Danika’s other highlight was a R240,000 Black Minnaloushe filly out of stakes winning mare Western Fleet who is from the family of champion sprinter Mythical Flight.

One of the last foals of successful Mr Prospector stallion Goldkeeper realised R220,000.  Consigned by Sandown Stud, his dam Newsday (Centenary) is a half-sister to stakes winner Tub Thunder.
