Prizemoney increases buoy New York yearling sale

The Fasig-Tipton New York-bred yearling sale in Saratoga posted major gains on the weekend.  The two day turnover soared 83% to $6.72 million and the average increased 39% to $54,238.

The sale was buoyed by the prospect of increased prizemoney and breeders’ awards filtering into the New York racing programme due to the promise of VLT (video-lottery-terminals) later this year.

The Dixie Union – Dash for Money (General Meeting) colt catalogued by Cheyenne Stables commanded top price of $250,000.  He is a half brother to winners by Ghostzapper, El Prado and Johannesburg.

A colt from the first Kentucky crop of prominent Argentinean sire Indygo Shiner was next best at $185,000.  Consigned by Darby Dan Farm, the chestnut is the second foal of winning mare Free as Tristan (Crafty Friend).  The dam is a half-sister to G1 performer Dowty (Irish River).

An Invasor filly fetched $160,000 to the bid of Northshore Bloodstock.  Offered by Paramount Sales, she is a half-sister to G3 winner Z Fortune (Siphon).

An Orientate colt made $155,000 when purchased by agent Walter Solace.  The colt was offered by Vinery and is a half brother to winners by Greeley’s Galaxy and Tapit.
