Shaun Dwyer unveiled a more than handy type when Mantener La Fe won on debut at Echuca on Monday.
The three-year-old Keep the Faith galloper ploughed through the wet conditions to take the Book For Melbourne Cup Day Plate (1000m) in eye-catching style.
After drifting out to $31, Mantener La Fe missed the start and was inconvenienced at the half-mile. He was also blocked for run near the home turn and would have been forgiven for failing. But Brad Rawiller picked a passage along the fence to win narrowly.
Mantener La Fe is Spanish for Keep The Faith and he’s a good-looking type with four white feet and a prominent blaze. He’s the first foal to race of unraced Peintre Celebre mare Ecrivain.
Dwyer is hopeful the gelding will stretch out to longer trips this season. His damsire won an Arc de Triomphe and further down the pedigree page is USA mare Able Money who won the G1 Mother Goose Stakes over 1700m.
Mantener La Fe has a large cheer squad of owners including Senrab Racing Syndicate, Mollymawk Syndicate, Matthew & Colin Fletcher, Damian, Graham & Irene Keogh, Persistence Racing Syndicate, Scott Paterson and Rone Racing Syndicate.
Keep the Faith (Sunday Silence) sired 6 individual winners in the first half of August and his stakes winning mare Lucky Penny resumes for her spring campaign at Moonee Valley this Saturday.
Greta West Stud stands Keep the Faith for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee this season.
