Tiger Pete will take the next step to black-type racing this preparation after his latest win in the TAB Touch Mobi Hcp (1200m) in Perth.

The Raheen Stud bred gelding improved his record to 8 wins in 17 starts when racing second-up at Belmont Park last Saturday.  “He’s a really good horse,” trainer Steve Wolfe said.  “He ran a super race first-up behind Dueton last month.

“We were probably on a hiding to nothing today.  He was a long off them at the turn but showed he’s ready for better things this season.”

Tiger Pete (5g Shovhog – Bligh Bounty by Forging Ahead) was a $19,000 buy from Raheen at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions and has now earned $230,000 for a group that includes Wolfe’s stable foreman son Brett.

The Wolfes knew the pedigree having prepared Tiger Pete’s older half-brother Big Jaw Macgraw (Dodge).  He won 6 races including a sprint at Ascot on Anzac Day 2007.

Tiger Pete’s family includes Hard To Catch who won 13 races up to G3 level in Brisbane.  “Our jockey Shaun Mc Gruddy reckons he’s a dead-set 1000 metre sprinter,” Wolfe revealed.  “He’s usually right but not with Tiger Pete – I think he’s more of a 1400 metre horse.”

Tiger Pete was being set for the $100,000 Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) in March before he went amiss.  The Raheen graduate can bridge the gap to black-type before the Belmont season finishes in October.
