Beyonce’s Star bowed out of racing in style with a driving victory in driving rain at Eagle Farm on Saturday. And the black-type she earned in the Listed Just Now Quality boosted her future value as a broodmare at Raheen Stud.
Raheen’s Nolan family bought her for $40,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in June. She has earned $140,000 in prizemoney since changing hands and between cheques was served and tested in foal to Show A Heart.
Beyonce’s Star (6m Orientate – Concert Star by Pompeii Court) is by a former Arrowfield Stud shuttler who didn’t strike a chord with Australian broodmare owners.
Orientate represents the Blushing Groom sireline and he covered less than 100 mares in two seasons at Arrowfield. His Australian record stands at a sky-high 75% winning strike-rate but, apart from Beyonce’s Star, his only other stakes winner has been Marveen (LR Goast Coast Bracelet).
Beyonce’s Star is a daughter of former top class mare Concert Star who won 11 races when trained by the late Max Lees. She is a half sister to the Melbourne stakes winner Solo Show who is the dam of Toast of the Coast. The latter was a G2 winner in Adelaide and a Listed winner at Rosehill.
