Star Snitzel colt Sizzling reeled in the leaders to score the easiest of wins in the G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Unleashing his customary big finish down the centre of the track, Sizzling defeated Academus (Lonhro) in a repeat result of the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doomben last month. Fellow Snitzel colt Danes On Stars finished third.
Sizzling (2c Snitzel – Admirelle by General Nediym) had won the LR Ken Russell Memorial Classic at the Gold Coast before the Champagne Stakes. He will now start a short-priced favourite in the G1 T J Smith Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm next Saturday.
“I know how he can finish off and I knew he was the best horse in the race,” trainer Kelso Wood said. “He’s so relaxed – nothing worries him. He’s a beautiful horse and he will win the T J Smith by further.”
Sizzling, a son of Snitzel, was purchased for connections by leading bloodstock agent John Foote for $260,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale. Bred by John Muir at Milburn Creek, he was presented at the Gold Coast in the draft of Evergreen Stud.
His only unplaced run in seven outings was an eye catching fourth to Driefontein in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Arrowfield sire Snitzel doubled up in the Sires’ Produce Stakes following Hot Snitzel’s victory in the race 12 months ago. Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) will stand for a $33,000 (inc gst) fee at Arrowfield this year.
