Stars shine on Snitzerland

Snitzerland is now ready to stretch her brilliance beyond 1200m but not before she gets a chance in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the straight-six at Flemington.

Snitzerland (3f Snitzel – Monte Rosa by Fraar) made it three from three this time in when proving too speedy for her rivals in the G3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night.  She will run next in the Blue Sapphire at Caulfield before heading to headquarters on the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The Bellerive Stud graduate has topped $1 million in earnings but the goal remains firmly on the elusive Group 1.  At her only previous attempt at the top level, Snitzerland finished within a half length of Pierro in the Golden Slipper.

“There’s still a little bit to go, but I’m happy where she is.  She’s going terrific,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.  “We held them to the line and she might be starting to look for seven furlongs now.”

Jockey Corey Brown concurred with those comments and suggested she may not have been totally focused under the lights when Friday night racing returned to Moonee Valley.  “When you bring her back she’s very relaxed and I reckon she’s a better chase horse, too,” Brown claimed.  “Later on she will get up over a mile.”

Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud and he got her from an unraced sister to G3 winner Nina Haraka.

Snitzerland was a $125,000 buy at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier sale for Neil Werrett and Steve McCann.  Werrett is well-known for his association with world champion Black Caviar and the pair are also members of the local syndicate that owns Vinery Australia.

Snitzel made it a race to race double when Snitzem took out the first heat of the 55 Second Challenge on the opening Moonee Valley night meeting of the season.  Arrowfield has priced Snitzel at $33,000 this year.
