Frozen Rope gave a group of golfing mates a winning introduction to racing at Port Macquarie on Monday.

The King Of Prussia gelding won the Rock ‘N’ Roll Maiden Hcp (1500m) by five lengths and Gosford trainer Adam Duggan reckons he will develop into a pretty good stayer this year.

Frozen Rope (3g King Of Prussia – Timor Flyer by Azzaam) was bred by Gary Begg and reared at Greta West Stud before making his way to the NSW Central Coast.

“Gary said the horse had been broken in by Tal Nolen at Benalla and was already on the float to Gosford,” Duggan recalled this week.  “He looked a nice enough with a big frame when he arrived here.  And he moved along alright when I took him down to the track the next morning.”

Duggan mentioned Frozen Rope while playing a pro-am tournament with Grant Binns and a few other mates and they decided to lease the horse by the time they got to the 19th hole.

“They might have got a good one first-up,” Duggan declared.  “Even though he’s on lease, I told the boys he would need time to grow into that big frame.”

Duggan just poked along with the gelding last year before getting him ready for Gosford on Anzac Day.  He finished third on debut and that set him up for an easy kill on Monday.

Frozen Rope worked to the front in the Heavy 10 conditions at Port Macquarie and then streeted them in the straight.  He pulled up without any problems and will back up later this month at Wyong (1600m) or Gosford (2100m).

“I’ve kept an eye on King Of Prussia – he can get them to win over all distances and my bloke should get up to 2400m,” Duggan predicted.  “His dam won over 2000m and she is by Azzaam who won a Sydney Cup.”

King Of Prussia stands at Greta West for a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee.  He has sired 96 winners of 233 races at a 58% strike-rate.  

Their winning range stretches out to 2500m.  The Steve Richards trained Prussian Secret scored over that trip at Moonee Valley in March.
