Stromberg Carlson broke through the 100 wins barrier earlier this week and he embarked on the next hundred at Ipswich on Friday.

The Raheen Stud stallion filled out the quinella in the Melbourne Cup Day Dining Maiden (1350m) when Winds Me Up defeated Macca’s Express.  The Ipswich result was hardly a surprise – the quinella only paid $2.30 on Tatts Bet.

At the previous Ipswich meeting on August 5, Stromberg Carlson sired a winning double with In A Storm and Castle Express.

Winds Me Up (3c Stromberg Carlson – Dove Vai by Marauding) was always travelling sweetly behind the leaders for Dale Missen.  He ranged up to Macca’s Express and nailed the front-runner to score by a half-head.

Winds Me Up is trained by Bruce Hill for the Heran Racing Syndicate and was a $72,000 buy out of the Raheen consignment at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS yearling sale.  Connections pocketed $13,500 in prizemoney at Ipswich and that also included a QTIS bonus.

Winds Me Up is the fifth winner from a family that keeps getting better and better for Raheen.  

He is a younger half-brother to Yes She Can Cancan (Canny Lad).  She won in Sydney and Adelaide and has hit the headlines this year thanks to her star South African colt Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready).

Gimmethegreenlight was named Champion 2YO Colt at the Cape Breeders Awards on Tuesday evening.  He completed a hat-trick at Kenilworth and was last seen finishing an unlucky third in the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes at Greyville.

Trainer Justin Snaith will bring him back for a G1 Cape Guineas campaign later this year.

Winds Me Up is also a half-brother to Stepping (Dodge).  A two-time Eagle Farm winner, she is the dam of very promising three year-old Club Command.

Club Command (Commands) is trained by Peter Moody and was a brilliant debut winner at Seymour last month.  He looked all over a winner second-up at Flemington on August 6 but was edged out by That’s The One (Snippetson).

The first two home have both been nominated for the G1 Caulfield Guineas in October.

Stromberg Carlson helped launch Redoute’s Choice as a sire of sires when Boberg opened his winning count at Rockhampton in November 2008.

He will stand for a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee at Raheen this year.
