Stud plans for I’ll Have Another won’t be determined for some time according to owner
J Paul Reddam.
I’ll Have Another (3c Flower Alley – Arch’s Gal Edith by Arch) was denied a chance to complete the USA Triple Crown after injuring a near-fore tendon in the lead-up to the G1 Belmont Stakes this weekend.
“He could have run on Saturday but we’re being extremely cautious,” Reddam explained. “We’re not taking any chances. We could give him six months off and then start back. But he’s done so much, that it was unanimous decision to bring the curtain down.”
I’ll Have Another goes into retirement after five wins in a seven start career for earnings of $2.62 million. He won on debut at Hollywood Park last year prior to a runner-up effort in the G2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar. Returning from a winter break this term, he went on a winning streak in the LR Robert B. Lewis Stakes, G1 Santa Anita Derby, G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Preakness Stakes.
“The stud season is over for this year,” Reddam observed. “He will go back to Hollywood Park on Monday and I guess we will be open to talking about a stud future then.”
Sold at auction for $11,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, I’ll Have Another was then purchased for $35,000 at the 2011 Ocala April 2YO Sale.
His sire Flower Alley (Distorted Humor) won the G1 Travers Stakes in 2005 and stands at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky. His dam Arch’s Gal Edith is related to G1 racehorse and sire Roanoke (Pleasant Colony).
