Sunspeed Spell in Kalgoorlie

Sunspeed-bred gallopers finished out of the money in the LR Kalgoorlie Cup but they did win four support races on the final day of the Goldfields carnival.

ANCIENT SPELL (Heritage) was a front-running winner in Race 3 for owners Ron Sayers, Tony Patrizi and Peter Bartlett.

The Steve Wolfe trained gelding had won his maiden at the 2010 Boulder Cup meeting.  His sire Heritage stands at Yarradale Stud and is a younger half-brother to former champion Northerly who was part-owned by Sayers, Patrizi and Bartlett.

They bought Heritage (Flying Spur) privately as a yearling on the eve of Northerly’s victory in the 2002 Caulfield Cup.

I SEE LUCK (Pricelessly) weighed in for another Yarradale Stud stallion in Race 4.  Pricelessly (Affirmed) sired G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless in his first crop and later transferred to Narrikup-based Saharri Park where his stud career finished in 2010.

JUST A FALCON (Fighting Falcon) increased his strike-rate to 3 wins in his last 5 starts for local trainer Rob O’Brien in Race 6 on Saturday   Fighting Falcon (Manila) arrived out here to stand at Fairfields Stud and later moved to Heytesbury Stud where his last foal crop – which includes Just A Falcon – were conceived in 2007.

PRINCE OF STARS (Balmont) completed a running double for Shaun O’Donnell in Race 8 after he piloted NZ bred gelding Classique Ivory (Savabeel) in the Kal Cup.

Balmont (Stravinsky) was a G1 winner of the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and he initially shuttled to Alwyn Park in Serpentine.  Perth Racing chairman Ted van Heemst then bought him outright to stand at Lynward Park Stud.
