War Affair (NZ) is just one win away from a clean sweep in the More Magic 3YO Championship after another dominant victory in the Newgate Farm Stakes (1400m) at Kranji on Sunday.
Sunday’s victory followed his first-leg success in the Premier Racing Partnerships Stakes (1200m) three weeks ago. The Mark Walker trained gelding took to the extra 200m like a duck to water with a last-to-first win that left his five rivals scrambling for the minors.
War Affair (3g O’Reilly – Kristique by Kris S) is now well on course for the third and final leg of the series in the G2 More Magic Ready To Run Sales 2013 Championship (1600m) on October 13. “This horse will keep improving with more distance,” Walker said. “It will be his first time over the mile, but the way he is going, it should not be a problem for him at all.
“I told Joao (Moreira) to go back and ride him like he was the best horse in the race today. Even though he tailed off early, I was always confident he would finish the strongest. There was a bit of buffeting in the home straight, but that’s him. He just runs about a bit.”
Bred and sold by Trelawney Stud, War Affair was purchased by Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis for $70,000 at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale. Raced by Warplan Racing Stable’s Mr and Mrs Ong, he was Singapore’s Champion 2YO winning the G2 Golden Horseshoe (1200m) and G3 Juvenile Championship (1200m).
