Sunspeed Trophy winner in Singapore

Captain Obvious led home a Steven Burridge trained quinella in the G3 Jumbo Jet Trophy (1400m) at Kranji on Sunday.

The Sunspeed bred gelding improved his record to 11 wins from 17 starts with a narrow victory over stablemate Speed Baby (Fastnet Rock).

Captain Obvious (6g Verglas – Shathor by Highest Honor) will now be set for a Gulf campaign in 2012.  “He’s a high class horse and I’m looking at Dubai,” Burridge said.   “The owners are keen so we will probably go over in January.”

In the short-term, Burridge will most likely set his stablemates for a return clash the G1 Kranji Mile on October 2.

Captain Obvious was purchased by K L Chong for just $24,000 from the Alwyn Park draft at the 2007 Perth Magic Millions.  He is by Alwyn Park’s former shuttler Verglas who is also the sire of globetrotting stayer Glass Harmonium.

Alwyn Park studmaster John Andrew has entered a Citidancer half-brother to Captain Obvious for the 2012 Perth Magic Millions.
