Super Smink in Fast lane for Group 1 Railway

Forest View Farm owners Ben and Jo Duncan are marking time with high-class mare Super Smink ahead of next Saturday’s G1 Railway Stakes (1600m) but they took time out to savour Fast Harry’s victory at Ascot yesterday.

The Duncans bred and sold Super Smink and she was taking it easy at home when Fast Harry unleashed a powerful finish for Willie Pike to win the Drummond Golf Hcp (1400m) by a head over Astro World (Pierro).

Fast Harry (4g Harry Angel – Helmaski by Helmet) made it four-on-end for earnings over $91,000 in just six starts.  Williams Racing paid $72,500 for him out of the Forest View Farm consignment at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Co-trainer Grant Williams revealed he’s taken time to mature and will be put away after a couple more runs for a winter prep.  Pike was also upbeat after unsaddling Fast Harry.  “I thought he was up against it today with top-weight and an outside gate.  It took him the length of the straight to put them away but I think there’s a bit of class there.”

The countdown is on for Ascot’s first Group 1 of the season and Super Smink is being kept safe at $7 by bookmakers ahead of the $1.5 million Railway Stakes (1600m) next Saturday.

Super Smink (5m Super One – Sminky Shorts by Snitzel) confirmed she’s as good as ever winning the G2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) last Saturday week at Ascot.  She set the bar high as a juvenile making a clean-sweep of the RL Magic Millions Classic (1200m), G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Resuming as a spring 3yo, she won the LR Belgravia Stakes (1200m) before her form tapered off during an autumn prep but trainer Dan Morton never lost faith in the filly’s ability to recapture her mojo.  That was confirmed this time last year when she let loose for an outstanding victory in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m).

Class told again last on November 8 when the daughter of Super One defeated stablemate In Good Order (American Pharoah) by a half-length in the G2 Lee-Steere Stakes.  “From what she did early on and to be still going is tremendous,” Morton declared.  “She’s fit so it’s our job to tick every box.  We were aware she might be penalised for the win but these races are worth proper money.   She’s going super and we’re looking forward to the Railway”.

Jockey Chris Parnham has partnered Super Smink throughout her career and rates her a magnificent mare.  “She’s pretty genuine and is the sort of mare that’s capable of winning a Group 1,” he declared.  “I think she’s good enough to do it in the Railway.”

Super Smink was a $45,000 buy for Morton from Forest View Farm at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  Her earnings to date total $1.52 million and Forest View has her yearling half-sister by Playing God at its south-west farm at Jindong.

Roselee Park stands Super One (I Am Invincible) for $8,000 alongside Super Easy (Darci Brahma) who is priced at $5,500.  Both fees (inc GST).  For bookings or further information, call Tracy Rodwell on (08) 9525 7715  or  0400 011 691.
