Hot And High won with ears pricked on debut at Northam last month and she doubled up with a runaway victory in the TABtouch Hcp (1200m) at Belmont on Wednesday.
Chris Parnham was aboard in the Avon Valley but a suspension meant Lucy Fiore was the lucky recipient on the Cape Falls Thoroughbreds filly who will now attempt a hat-trick in black-type company at Ascot.
Snip of Romance (Snippetson) led at a cracking clip while Hot And High settled midfield before cornering four-wide into the straight. She levelled with the leading division without Fiore moving a muscle and then extended when given a left-hander to score by more than three lengths.
“She’s an exciting filly and there’s a lot left in the tank,” trainer Dion Luciani revealed. “Full credit to Lucy, she rode her a treat and we will give her one more run this prep in the (LR) Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) in two weeks.”
Cape Falls owner Brett Fogarty bred her using Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot (GB) over his homebred mare High Conviction who claimed a Belmont hat-trick during the 2017 winter season with trainer Simon Miller. Her most recent foal is a yearling filly by Zousain.
Hot And High was conceived in 2021 when Too Darn Hot stood for $44,000 at Darley Kelvinside in the Hunter Valley. His service fee this year is $275,000.
Second-dam Paris Petard (Mujahid) had been a profitable filly for Oakland Park in 2006 winning the LR Gimcrack Stakes, G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes and LR Belgravia Stakes. She transferred to Fogarty’s Wilyabrup farm after changing hands for $100,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale.
“That’s a nice pick-up ride and she’s push-button,” Fiore said back in the enclosure. “She settled nicely and we were going to be one-one but then everyone kept digging up. We were able to drop back in and thankfully she has a turn of foot and let down beautifully.”
