Victorian vendors are out in force for the Inglis Easter yearling sale at Newmarket starting on Tuesday.
Despite rain sweeping the Newmarket sale grounds on Sunday, Victorian studs have been busy parading their lots in advance of Australia’s premier source of yearlings.
The level of interest in Victorian-bred Super VOBIS yearlings increases every year and this week’s auction includes consignments from Lauriston Thoroughbreds (7 lots), Supreme Thoroughbreds (6), Two Bays Farm (6), Eliza Park (5) and Three Bridges (5).
Milburn Creek is also acting as agent for 8 yearlings on behalf of Makybe headed by a High Chaparral colt from Melbourne Cup legend Makybe Diva.
Corinella based Lauriston Thoroughbreds starts the Victorian parade with a Street Cry – Gold Edition colt (Lot 28) on Tuesday. Darley stallion Street Cry got him from Lauriston’s Group 1 winner Gold Edition who was Australia’s Champion 3YO Filly in 2006-07.
Lauriston Thoroughbreds operations manager James O’Brien has also catalogued five yearlings on Thursday by leading sires Starcraft, Encosta de Lago, Not A Single Doubt, Exceed And Excel & Snitzel.
Romsey nursery Supreme Thoroughbreds is also housed in Stable 2 at Newmarket. “We’ve been solid parading since last Wednesday,” Supreme owner Brent Grayling said. . “There seems to be all the right people here, that’s for sure.”
Inglis Victorian director Peter Heagney has highlighted the following Super VOBIS nominated lots to watch at the Inglis Easter yearling sale;
Lot 28 – Grey Colt Street Cry x Gold Edition (Lion Hunter) – This colt is by a world class sire from the champion race mare Gold Edition, the top filly of the 2006/07 three-year-old classification.
Lot 95 – Brown Colt High Chaparral x Makybe Diva (Desert King) By champion racehorse and sire of 51 individual stakes winners including dual Cox Plate champion So You Think. From the great race mare Makybe Diva, three- time Melbourne Cup winner and twice Australian Horse of The Year.
Lot 98 – Brown Colt Denman x Many Facets (Commands) – A well grown impressive colt by exciting first season sire Denman from a half sister to Group 1 MRC Toorak Handicap winner Shot Of Thunder.
Lot 134 – Brown Colt Fastnet Rock x Nicola Lass (Scenic) – By Fastnet Rock, the Champion Australian sire of season 2011/12, from seven-time winner Nicola Lass. This colt is a half brother to Group 1 winners Niconero and Nicconi.
Lot 141 – Bay Filly Fastnet Rock x Optimist (Red Ransom) – By the sire of Atlantic Jewel, this is the second foal of a half sister to super mare Makybe Diva. This lovely style of filly has potential to shine on the race track or the bloodlines to be a top flight broodmare.
Lot 179 – Bay Colt Exceed And Excel x Recurring (Pentire) – By Newmarket Handicap winner and the Champion Australian sire of 2012-13 from Group 1 winning mare Recurring.
Lot 208 – Bay Filly Fastnet Rock x Shiny (Forest Glow) – By the same sire as Super Cool and Mosheen. This filly is a half sister to versatile galloper Stoneblack and Stakes winner Marveen.
Lot 215 – Bay Colt High Chaparral x Snow Hero (True Hero) – By the same sire as So You Think and Its A Dundeel. This colt is a half brother to popular Victorian Stakes winner Hvasstan.
Lot 224 – Brown Colt Street Cry x Star On High (Fusaichi Pegasus) – By Dubai World Cup winner and the sire of champion USA mare Zenyatta. The dam, while unraced, is a half sister to the champion three-year-old filly of Europe, Peeping Fawn.
Lot 249 – Bay Colt Snitzel x The Loan Express (Choisir) – By Oakleigh Plate winner and the sire of Shamus Award, the only horse to claim the Cox Plate and Australian Guineas in the same season. This colt is the only Super VOBIS-nominated yearling by Snitzel, the current leading Australian sire, from an imported Choisir mare.
Lot 313 – Bay Filly Exceed And Excel x Ancelin (Sadlers Wells) – By the sire of the 2013 Golden Slipper Overreach from an Irish mare who has had five to race with four winners, including Weinholt trained by Peter Moody.
Lot 377 – Bay Filly Fastnet Rock x Climatic (Fusachi Pegasus) – A beautifully bred filly with a commercial pedigree. This filly is closely related through her second dam to the very successful family of Redoute’s Choice and Manhattan Rain.
Lot 396 – Bay Filly Zabeel x Danevade (Danehill) – One of the last opportunities to acquire a filly by champion stallion Zabeel, the sire of over a 1000 winners including 148 at Stakes level. From a sister to Shania Dane and Hong Kong champion Scintillation.
