Last start Gosford Guineas winner Pampelonne maintained his spotless record this campaign with an impressive three length victory in the $500,000 Scone Guineas (1400m) on Saturday.
Pampelonne (3g Rock Of Gibraltar – Jestajewel by Rory’s Jester) had won on debut at Warwick Farm last September and is unbeaten in three starts this year. He emulated 2011 Stradbroke winner Sincero who had completed the Gosford – Scone Guineas double before travelling north twelve months ago.
The Tim Martin trained three-year-old has stepped up to every challenge this year and will be set for the G1 Stradbroke Hcp on June 9. Owned by former NSW Racing Chairman Alan Bell, he cost $140,000 out of the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
“Pampelonne is a Group 1 horse,” Martin claimed. “I would love him to go straight into the Stradbroke but he’s down the order of entry so we might have to back up in the Doomben 10,000 next Saturday.
The striking son of Rock of Gibraltar has now won four of his six starts and earned over $667,000. His dam Jestajewel won at Moonee Valley and was stakes placed at Flemington. Her half-sister Marveen (Orientate) was a Listed winner at Flemington, Sandown and Gold Coast.
