The first weanlings of Derrinstown Stud stallion Tamayuz have been in demand and his colt from Diary (Green Desert) topped the fourth and final session of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale on Saturday.
The half-brother to last year’s G1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner Total Gallery (Namid) was knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff for 200,000 guineas. “He is absolutely lovely horse, with a proper pedigree,” Goff said. “I really like the Tamayuz stock. They all seem to have plenty of quality.”
Tamayuz (Nayef) stands at Derrinstown Stud and is from the immediate family of Galileo and Sea The Stars. He was a Group 1 winner of the Prix Jean Prat and Jacques le Marois for Sheikh Hamdan.
The colt’s dam Diary is cataloged in next week’s Tattersalls December Mare Sale and so is his half-sister Lady Darshaan (High Chaparral). The latter was runner-up in the G1 Fillies’ Mile.
Second on Saturday’s leader-board was a colt by Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Raven’s Pass that was purchased by Darley’s John Ferguson for 170,000 guineas. He is from G1 Italian Oaks winner Zanzibar (In the Wings). The colt was consigned by Usk Valley Stud and is a half-brother to G2 winner Spice Route (King’s Best).
Saturday’s top priced filly was the Multiplex half-sister to this year’s G2 Prix Eugene Adam winner Shimraan (Rainbow Quest). She was knocked down to Hugo Merry for 130,000 guineas.
Her sire Multiplex (Danehill) was a G3 French winner for Khalid Abdulla. “She has been bought to race by Prince Faisal,” Merry explained. “We missed the Singspiel colt yesterday but are happy to get this filly.”
Returns for all four days of the foal sale averaged out at 31,235 guineas. That was down 4.5% but the median rose 25% on the 2009 figure of 16,000 guineas.
“The continuing economic uncertainties in Europe have not made for encouraging reading in recent weeks,” Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said.
“But foal buyers, particularly from Ireland, have been out in force and we have had good, solid trade throughout the past four days,”
The Tattersalls December Mare Sale starts on Monday.
