Tasmanian Magic Millions – Record set by Written Tycoon

A Written Tycoon – Kandy Korn colt set a Tasmanian record at the Magic Millions yearlings sale in Launceston on Thursday.

Local trainer John Blacker bid $115,000 for the Armidale Stud colt who is from a daughter of G3 VRC Matriarch Stakes winner Sweet Corn (Scenic).  “I believed he was the best colt of the sale,” Blacker said.  “He’s by one of the hottest sires around and I knew we would have to pay a decent amount for him.

“The plan is to leave him a colt and he will start here in Tasmania and hopefully end up racing in Melbourne and Sydney.”

Victorian buyer Manny Gelagotis snapped up another six-figure lot by Written Tycoon from Armidale Stud when securing the colt from Edikeni.  “He’s very athletic and has a great temperament,” Gelagotis said.  “He has all the makings of a good horse and he’s by a top stallion.”

Armidale Stud’s first season sire Needs Further provided the next two top sellers – the colt from Caralowe for $85,000 and the filly out of Buzzing Along for $72,500.

Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds was the leading buyer at the sale with her three purchases at a spend of $168,500.  The overall average price of $23,250 was up 34% and clearance rate improved a point to 83%.
