Tattersalls Autumn Sale average rises 17%

USA bred four year-old Azrag topped a low-key session on Day 4 of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale on Thursday.

Trainer Gerard Butler paid 35,000 guineas for Azrag who was consigned by his Egerton House Stables on behalf of Fawzi Abdulla Nass.  The grey Mizzen Mast colt has won four races in Bahrain and England, the latest over 2400m at Wolverhampton on September 27.

The fourth and final day of the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale saw a total of 137 lots sell for 851,900 guineas.  The average dropped 700 guineas to 6,218 guineas but the median increased 25% to 4,000 guineas.  The strong clearance rate continued with 86% of lots sold on the last day.

Overall, the four day’s of trade reached 20.76 million guineas.  The average was up 17% to 22,839 guineas and the median rose 22% to 11,000 guineas.  The clearance rate for the sale rose 7 points to 90%.

“The Sale is a unique event and yet again it has attracted an extraordinarily diverse crowd of buyers,” Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented.  “The momentum which began with the October Yearling Sale earlier this month has been well and truly sustained.  If any further proof were needed as to how highly British and Irish bloodstock is regarded throughout the world, we have witnessed it at Tattersalls this week.”
