Tatts topper Red Gulch sold to Gulf

Red Gulch starred on Day 1 of the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale when he knocked down for 250,000 guineas on Monday.

Anthony Stroud bought the Kyllachy four-year-old after seeing off several agents including Guy Mulcaster, Alastair Donald, Jamie McCalmont and Joe Miller.  All made valiant attempts to secure the recent French Listed winner but were unable to up the ante when Stroud raised the ante.

“The horse looked magnificent,” Stroud said.  “He moves well, got maximum marks from us and he suits the profile for Dubai.  There is still some progression in him.”

Australian trainer Gai Waterhouse bought Glencadam Gold (Refuse To Bend) for 135,000gns and Julienas (Cape Cross) for 75,000gns.

“This is our first venture to the Tattersalls Sale,” Waterhouse stable spokeman Bruce Slade said.  “European horses have done such a great job in Australia and Gai wishes to be part of that success, too.

“Glencadam Gold is a lovely looker with plenty of scope and he’s bred to get a further.  He’s also lightly-raced and well-rated so hopefully there’s a bit of improvement in him.”

Day 1 saw 224 lots change hands for 3.85 million guineas.  The average dipped 17% to 17,213 guineas.  The HIT Sale continues on Tuesday.
