Teofilo colt delivers in Dewhurst

Irish trainer Jim Bolger won the G1 Dewhurst Stakes with Teofilo five years ago and he returned to Newmarket to claim it again with Teofilo colt Parish Hall on Saturday.

Teofilo retired to Darley after an unbeaten career with the Co Kilkenny trainer.  A Galileo stallion, he shuttles to Darley Kelvinside for a $22,000 service fee.

Parish Hall (2c Teofilo – Halla Siamsa by Montjeu) won his maiden at Leopardstown in April and followed up with placings in the G3 Tyros Stakes and G2 Futurity Stakes before the season finale at Newmarket.

“That will be it for the year for him,” Bolger said.  “I’m not sure about the 2000 Guineas next year.  He’s a very sound horse and I’m thinking more about the English Derby.”

Parish Hall raced close to the pace and was committed by Kevin Manning approaching the 400m mark in the Dewhurst.  He kept kicking in the closing stages to deny Coolmore colt Power (Oasis Dream) by a half-length.

Teofilo is bred on the same Galileo – Danehill cross as Frankel and he has sired 12 first-crop winners in Europe this year.  Apart from Parish Hall, his other stakes winners have been Remember Alexander (G3 Leopardstown), Black Arrow (LR Cologne) and stablemate Teolane (LR Naas).

The first Australian bred yearlings by Teofilo will be on sale at the 2012 majors.
