Trainer Rob Heathcote will mark time before making a decision on a Melbourne campaign for his talented mare Fillydelphia.
Fillydelphia (4m Bianconi – Edel Vanessa by Encosta de Lago) scored a three length victory in the Australian Financial Advisers Quality Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Heathcote knows what’s required down south having won with Woorim and Buffering at Moonee Valley last month. “She was racing first-up but I knew she would be fit enough,” he said. “The only concern was the heavy track.”
Fillydelphia was a G3 winner of the Rough Habit Plate (2020m) at Doomben in May before signing off with an unplaced run in the G1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm in June.
“I’m sure she can measure up to those good races for mares in Melbourne,” Heathcote said. “She will have one more run here in Brisbane before we making any specific plans.”
The Bianconi mare was bred by Queenslander Frank Wolber.
Fillydelphia impressed jockey Jim Byrne on Saturday. “She ticks all the boxes. I didn’t want to knock her around too much in the straight because she has a long campaign ahead.”
Bianconi (Danzig) has now sired 434 individual winners of 1,229 races at a 60% strike-rate. He stands at Swettenham Stud for an advertised fee of $8,500 (inc gst).
