The Comedian was all business on debut in Singapore on Friday night. The Michael Freedman flyer performed like a feature winner of the future on debut at Kranji.
The Comedian (4g Encosta De Lago – How Funny by Rory’s Jester) brought up a double for Freedman and the Mummify Stable. They had won an earlier event with Nandowra (Savabeel).
Winning jockey Robbie Fradd stood in for Freedman who is in Dubai with G2 Al Quoz Sprint aspirant Better Be The One. “The Comedian is a very nice horse and I am sure he will go far,” Fradd predicted. “I was caught four deep early and decided to let him roll. He kept gathering steam and just left them.”
Freedman launched The Comedian’s Singapore career against some smart sprinters in Friday night’s Progress Stakes over 1200m. But any question marks were answered in resounding style when he raced away in the straight.”
The Comedian’s dam How Funny was a homebred for Tyreel Stud’s Dean Fleming. She was a Listed winner of the Tommy Smith Slipper at Doomben and was also runner-up to Polar Success in the 2003 G1 Golden Slipper.
Tyreel sold The Comedian for $1.70 million at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale. He was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier but was a major disappointment winning just two races at Geelong in 11 Australian starts.
Tyreel also bred and sold Singapore star Rocket Man to Fred Crabbia for $60,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions National yearling sale.
The Comedian and Utrillo completed a winning double for Encosta De Lago at Kranji on Friday night. Pat Shaw trains Utrillo for Crabbia and they were also in Dubai for Rocket Man’s mission in the G1 Golden Shaheen on Saturday night.
