Goodwood Park stallion St Averil added another notch to his winning tally when The Saint Returns broke through at Penn National in Pennsilvania on Wednesday night.
The Saint Returns (3c St Averil – Sugartown Rose by Storm Broker) shadowed the front-runners until turning for home where jockey Bill Otero angled him back to the rails and swooped on the leaders. The colt stayed on strongly to score by three quarters of a length.
The latest win comes a week after St Averil filly Jim’s Prospect won for the second time at Laurel Park in Maryland.
Goddess Angel was St Averil’s first winner when she saluted in Maryland and she was joined in quick time by Wacko For Flacco who was successful at Charles Town in West Virginia.
The Saint Returns was bred at Land Of Believe Farm which is one of the premier breeding facilities in Pennsylvania. Milton S Hershey built the Farm in 1904 shortly after founding Hershey’s which became the largest chocolate manufacturer in North America.
St Averil shuttles to Goodwood Park in Queensland from Bonita Farm in Maryland. His first Australian foals are on the ground at the Allora farm.
St Averil (Saint Ballado) represents the Halo sireline and he was runner-up to Lion Heart in the 2yo Hollywood Futurity (G1) and returned at three to win the G2 Santa Catalina Stakes.
Marshall and Joyce Boyd stand St Averil at Goodwood Park alongside Legal Opinion (Danehill), Specialize (Bluebird) and Duntroon Digger (Royal Academy).
