Third classic for Blue Bunting

Dynaformer filly Blue Bunting completed a hat-trick of classic victories in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday.

The Godolphin filly had won the English 1000 Guineas and Irish Oaks earlier this year and maintained that form against older mares at the Ebor meeting.

Blue Bunting (3f Dynaformer–Miarixa by Linamix) scored by three-quarters of a length after a dour duel with Galileo mare Vita Nova.  “She’s never going to win by a large distance,” jockey Frankie Dettori claimed.  “But she’s so tough and is very hard to get past.”

Bookmakers firmed her into 6/1 for the G1 English St Leger on September 10 when she will face colts for the first time.  Wednesday’s G2 Great Voltigeur winner Sea Moon (Beat Hollow) is the 6/4 favourite for Europe’s oldest classic.

Blue Bunting was a $200,000 buy at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.  She is by Three Chimneys stallion Dynaformer (Roberto) and her dam Miarixa is an unraced half-sister to French Listed winner Marque Royale (Royal Academy).
