Enigmatic galloper Trusting finally returned to the winner’s circle at Warwick Farm on Saturday with a tenacious victory in the G2 ATC Chelmsford Stakes.
Trusting (5h Tale of the Cat – Legible by Zabeel) ended a 16 start losing streak when he did best in a duel with autumn star My Kingdom Of Fife.
The Patinack Farm galloper appeared to have the world at his feet after winning the G2 AJC Warwick Stakes two years ago. “He’s got all the ability in the world but is very frustrating,” trainer John Thompson said. “He’s very much a stallion and can be a bit hard to coach.”
Trusting’s sire Tale of the Cat was a late withdrawal from the shuttle service from Coolmore’s Kentucky base to Australia this year. He was a $300,000 buy out of the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2008 NZB Premier yearling sale.
Patinack also races Tale of the Cat’s Group 1 WA Railway Stakes winner Gathering.
Trusting is from the Lloyd Williams owned mare Legible who bowed out of racing with a G2 victory in the 2003 Sandown Classic.
Patinack owner Nathan Tinkler bought her after Trusting burst on to the scene. The mare has a yearling full sister to Trusting and she was bred back to Patinack sire Casino Prince last November.
